12 weekends until Christmas. One money job per weekend is plenty.See the kit
For the grown-up

How they pay.

Three ways to put real money in a kid’s hands, honestly compared. The jobs work with all three. The learning does not.

Cash envelopes

Free. The most visible. Bills and coins teach faster than any screen, because the kid can watch the pile shrink. Downsides: coins, and the lost envelope.

A kid debit card

You load it from your phone, the kid taps, and you both see the transaction. It’s a real card with a real decline at the register if they’re over, which is exactly what you want in Job 2. These are paid subscriptions: check the current price before you sign up, and cancel if your kid stops using it. If it declines in the moment, kneel down, ask “What goes back?”, and let them choose. A cashier has seen this before; it isn’t an emergency.

Best for List Bosses and the Gift List

Your card, kid handing it over

Fastest, teaches the least. The kid learns that money is a tap. Fine as a fallback at Level 1 if cash is impossible.

Fallback only
The small stuff

Optional. None of it required.

A plain envelope or a kid wallet for the money is all a kid really needs. These make the jobs a little easier.

List Bosses

A calculator with a notepad

For the running total in the store. A phone works, but a calculator doesn’t have YouTube on it, and this one has a little screen for jotting the list.
